COMBAT LANCER
Comanding officer of the US Air Force squadron detachment tasked with executing
Operation Combat Lancer (the first operational use of the F-11A), COL Ivan ‘’Ike’’ Dethman, and his right-seater, Rick Mattheis are seen leaving the target area during a night mission near Vinh, North Vietnam, after hitting an ordinance dump located inside a heavily-defended cave bunker. This was the fifth of fifty Combat Lancer missions. Not a single F-111A was lost to enemy defenses. |
