DIVINE WIND
Imperial Japanese Navy Lt. (JG) Hasegawa Kaoru, aircraft commander of the 706th Air Group P1Y1 Ginga ("FRANCES") is fired upon and subsequently shot down by accurate defensive gunfire from the USS Callaghan, DD 792, on the morning of 25 May, 1945 while trying to locate the US Navy aircraft carriers in the Okinawa invasion force lying off the island of Okinawa.
Penetrating heavy overcast directly over the USS West Virginia and the Callaghan, Hasegawa was unable to complete the purpose of his suicide-mission, but was rescued by the crew of the USS Callaghan….a rare survivor of the Kamikaze attackers.
